Dow Jones and Special Libraries Association create new annual award to recognize leadership in the information professional community.

About The Award

To apply for the award, participants must select three professional competencies and three personal competencies as outlined in the SLA report "Competencies for Special Librarians of the 21st Century" and write an essay describing how they have developed these competencies in their daily work. Or, another SLA member or a person outside the organization can submit an entry in the name of the participant. The SLA Awards & Honors Committee will select the winner, and the recipient will be announced in January 1998.

The award includes a $2,000 cash prize and involvement of the recipient in award-related activities: a profile in Dowline, the Dow Jones newsletter for information professionals; a presentation at an SLA-related function; and an advertisement about the award in a Dow Jones publication and/or a profile in Information Outlook, SLAs monthly magazine. Dow Jones will present the award at SLAs Annual Conference Awards Banquet A banquet is a large public meal or feast, complete with main courses and desserts. It usually serves a purpose, such as a charitable gathering, a ceremony, or a celebration. Sometimes a banquet consists of only desserts, but it is advisable to include main courses as well.  in June 1998.
