 Wall Street Journals were launched in a new compact format with enhanced linkages between print and online editions, which had a positive impact on advertising results. The Wall Street Journal Europe's linage increased 13.6% in October, due to increases in general and classified advertising, partially offset by a slight decline in technology advertising. The Wall Street Journal Asia's linage increased 16.0%, due to increases in general and classified advertising, partially offset by a decline in financial advertising.

At Ottaway Newspapers, advertising linage decreased 9.1% in October due to declines in auto and other classified advertising, retail and non-daily advertising. Partially offsetting these declines were gains in real estate classified and national advertising.
