The Asian Wall Street Journal's per issue linage decreased 13.3% in April and year-to-date total linage decreased 1.0%. Weakness in many of the larger general, technology and financial advertising categories, exacerbated by SARS fears and the Iraq war, were the primary factors for both the European and Asian Journals' advertising declines in April. Ottaway Newspapers' same property advertising linage was down 0.9% because of a decline in classified advertising, partially offset by increases in display advertising and at non-daily publications. Year-to-date total linage at Ottaway Newspapers' decreased 0.2%.
