Dow Jones Announces Sale of American Demographics to Cowles Business Media.

, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 24, 1997--Dow Jones & Company announced an agreement to sell its American Demographics The attributes of people in a particular geographic area. Used for marketing purposes, population, ethnic origins, religion, spoken language, income and age range are examples of demographic data.  Inc. subsidiary to Cowles Business Media Inc.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

American Demographics, based in Ithaca, N.Y., publishes American Demographics and Marketing Tools magazines, the newsletter Forecast and a catalog of books and CD-ROMs.

Cowles Business Media, a unit of Cowles Media Company, is based in Stamford, Conn. Among its products are Direct, Folio (1) Text management software for the professional reference publishing market from Fast Search & Transfer, Oslo, Norway and Boston, MA (www.fastsearch.com).
