 at The Wall Street Journal's U.S. edition decreased 12.7% in October (4.3% on a per issue basis with two fewer publishing days in October 2004 compared to October 2003). In the general advertising category at the Journal, October linage decreased 11.5% mainly due to declines in travel, professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products. , auto, office products, insurance and media advertising, partially offset by increases in luxury goods, pharmaceutical and industrial advertising. In the Journal's technology category, linage decreased 36.5% in October due to declines in computer software, communications, computer hardware and personal computer advertising. The Journal's financial advertising decreased 7.7% in October as a result of weakness in retail and wholesale advertising, partially offset by a gain in tombstone Tombstone, city (1990 pop. 1,220), Cochise co., SE Ariz.; inc. 1881. With its pleasant climate and legendary past, Tombstone is a well-known tourist attraction. The city became a national historic landmark in 1962.  advertising. Internationally, The Wall Street Journal Europe's linage decreased 29.6% (22.9% per issue) in October, with year-to-date linage down 3.7%. The Asian Wall Street Journal's linage declined 22.3% (14.9% per issue), with year-to-date linage down 6.1% (5.7% per issue). Decreases in technology, general and financial advertising drove October's decrease in advertising for both the European European

At Ottaway Newspapers, advertising linage rose 4.4% on increases in classified and retail display advertising. Year-to-date same property advertising linage at Ottaway was up 4.9% over the prior year.
