 at The Wall Street Journal declined 8.2% in February. In the general advertising category at the Journal, February linage increased 4.2% due to increased B-2-B professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  and industrial equipment advertising as well as increased consumer pharmaceuticals, healthcare and luxury goods advertising. Partially offsetting these gains were declines in B-2-B insurance advertising and consumer auto and travel advertising. The Journal's financial advertising linage decreased 21.3% due to decreases in wholesale, tombstone Tombstone, city (1990 pop. 1,220), Cochise co., SE Ariz.; inc. 1881. With its pleasant climate and legendary past, Tombstone is a well-known tourist attraction. The city became a national historic landmark in 1962.  and retail advertising. Linage in the Journal's technology category decreased 30.7% due to softness in hardware, B2B e-commerce (Business to Business Electronic-COMMERCE) Refers to one business selling to another business via the Web. See e-commerce.  and software advertising, partially offset by increased advertising for personal computers and communications. Classified/Other advertising linage increased 1.5% due to gains in real estate advertising.

At Barron's, total national advertising pages decreased 7.5% in February due to declines in technology and general advertising.

Internationally, The Wall Street Journal Europe's linage decreased 22.9% in February, due to declines in financial, classified and technology advertising partially offset by a gain in general advertising. The Asian Wall Street Journal's linage decreased 8.6% (up 1.5% per issue) due to two fewer publishing days along with declines in financial and classified advertising partially offset by a gain in technology advertising.

At Ottaway Newspapers, advertising linage declined 3.6% in February due to declines in classified auto, display and non-daily advertising, partially offset by gains in real estate and other classified advertising.
