Dow Jones & Company Appoints Richard J. Levine Vice President of News and Staff Development.

 & Company today announced that it has appointed Richard J. Levine, 63, to the new role of vice president of news and staff development, effective Oct. 3. Mr. Levine, who currently serves as vice president and executive editor of Dow Jones Newswires Dow Jones Newswires is the real-time financial news organization owned by Dow Jones. Founded in 1882, its primary competitors are Bloomberg L.P. and Reuters. The company reports more than 420,000 subscribers -- including brokers, traders, analysts and fund managers -- as of July , will report to Paul E. Steiger, managing editor, The Wall Street Journal, and Paul J. Ingrassia, president, Dow Jones Newswires.

In his new role, Mr. Levine will be responsible for developing a staff training program for all Dow Jones journalists, and for devising ways to expand and increase the effectiveness of coordination and collaboration between the staffs of the Company's two largest news departments--The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. He also will seek to improve the Company's relationships with third-party content providers whose material is used throughout Dow Jones.

Mr. Levine started with Dow Jones in 1966 as a reporter in the Journal's Washington bureau, where he was chief economic writer for assignments ranging from labor to military affairs. In these positions, he has expanded and directed a global news staff of more than 870 journalists in 92 bureaus.
