Dow Deploys Farallon's Timbuktu Pro Worldwide.


ALAMEDA Alameda (ăləmē`də, –mā`də), city (1990 pop. 76,459), Alameda co., W central Calif., on an island just off the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay; settled 1850, inc. as a city 1884. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1996--Farallon Computing, Inc., today announced that it has sold Dow Chemical, Inc. 26,000 licenses of its Timbuktu Pro (Windows 1.1) software for use by Dow's 53,000 employees worldwide.

The Timbuktu Pro solution will allow Dow's help desk to provide improved troubleshooting assistance to the company's Windows 95 users.

With the ability to observe what the employee is experiencing with their desktop, the use of Timbuktu leads to a quicker and more precise understanding of the problem and hence appropriate resolution. Dow believes this results in greater employee confidence in the help desk services.

Timbuktu Pro

Timbuktu Pro is the first Windows 95 integrated solution for true network remote access. Farallon has combined the leading-edge remote control functionality of Timbuktu Pro with the state-of-the-art remote node A terminal or computer located apart from the main network. It may refer to a branch office or a traveling user with a laptop. Access to the company LAN is typically made via an Internet or dial-up connection. Timbuktu Pro now takes full advantage of the PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) The most popular method for transporting IP packets over a serial link between the user and the ISP.
