Dow Corning plans TPE entry & multibase purchase. (Your Business in Brief).


As evidence of its interest in getting into the thermoplastic elastomer Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), sometimes referred to as thermoplastic rubbers, are a class of copolymers or a physical mix of polymers (usually a plastic and a rubber) which consist of materials with both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties.  business, Dow Corning Dow Corning is a multinational corporation headquartered in Midland, Michigan, USA. Dow Corning specializes in silicon and silicone-based technology, offering more than 7,000 products and services. Dow Corning is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning, Inc.  Corp., Midland, Mich., last week announced its intent to acquire Multibase S.A. of France, an independent thermoplastics compounder serving the automotive, appliance, and packaging industries. Multibase, which has a U.S. operation in Copley, Ohio, produces Multiprene and Multi-Flex olefinic and styrenic TPEs, Multibatch mineral-filled polyolefin masterbatches, Multi-Pro polyolefin compounds, and ABS. Multibase has production facilities in France, the U.S., and India, and sales offices in Brazil and China.

Although Dow Corning is known for silanes and silicones, it has just launched the TPSiV line of high-performance TPEs. They combine the high-temperature performance (>150 C continuous use) of silicone rubber with the melt reprocessability and chemical resistance of engineering thermoplastics. It is analogous to olefinic thermoplastic A polymer material that turns to liquid when heated and becomes solid when cooled. There are more than 40 types of thermoplastics, including acrylic, polypropylene, polycarbonate and polyethylene.  vulcanizates (TPVs) in that it contains a vulcanized vul·ca·nize
