Dow & Bayer reorganize units.

Two major plastics and chemicals firms have restructured their global business groups. Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich., created three new units, each headed by a senior v.p.

Meanwhile, Bayer Group in Germany has formed a separate legal entity called Bayer MaterialScience Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) is an independent subgroup within Bayer AG. It was created as part of the restructuring of Bayer AG from the former business group Bayer Polymers, with certain of its activities being spun off to Lanxess AG.  ACT, formerly the Bayer polymers business. Its holdings include polyurethanes and polycarbonate A category of plastic materials used to make a myriad of products, including CDs and CD-ROMs.  products. Later this year, it will gain two Bayer subsidiaries: H.C. Starck, producer of specialty metallic and ceramic powders and electronic chemicals; and Wolff Walsrode, which makes performance films and cellulosics.

Another subgroup, Bayer Chemicals ACT, will be listed on the stock market as a separate company with a new name by early next year. It has the styrenics, semi-crystalline thermoplastics, rubber, and rubber chemicals that were part of Bayer Polymers. Fibers and the RheinChemie subsidiary will be added to Chemicals.
