David brings over 35 years of experience working in mining and exploration with a strong focus on gold exploration and geology in Tanzania.

David graduated with a BSc Honours and PhD, then started his career working for the Geological Survey of Tasmania. In 1972, he joined the University of Western Australia Western Australia, state (1991 pop. 1,409,965), 975,920 sq mi (2,527,633 sq km), Australia, comprising the entire western part of the continent. It is bounded on the N, W, and S by the Indian Ocean. Perth is the capital.  where he progressed to full Professor by 1987. He taught undergraduate classes in field and structural geology and ore genesis/economic geology. From 1987 to 2005, David was Director of both the Centre for Strategic Mineral Deposits and the Centre for Global Metallogeny. During his academic career, Professor Groves authored or co-authored over 500 papers and supervised over 80 PhD, 35 MSc and 120 BSc Honours students. He published widely on Archaean evolution, the nature and genesis of komatiite-hosted Ni-Cu and orogenic gold deposits, global metallogeny and conceptual targeting of mineral deposits.
