OAKLAND, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--Jan. 30, 2001

DoubleTwist, Inc. today announced the availability of two new bioinformatics products: SNPTwist -- the DoubleTwist SNP SNP Scottish National Party

The Prophecy ToolKit is a data integration program that provides an optional enhancement for DoubleTwist's Prophecy product, which consists of the DoubleTwist Annotated Human Genome The human genome is the genome of Homo sapiens, which is composed of 24 distinct pairs of chromosomes (22 autosomal + X + Y) with a total of approximately 3 billion DNA base pairs containing an estimated 20,000–25,000 genes.  Database and associated software for data interpretation and visualization. The ToolKit allows customers to integrate the DoubleTwist Annotated Human Genome Data with their proprietary sequence data, providing a common environment in which to visualize and mine proprietary data using the human genome as an organizing principle.

SNPTwist -- The DoubleTwist SNP Detector

SNPTwist incorporates DoubleTwist's proprietary SNP detection algorithm, which enables high-throughput mining of large and redundant data sets for SNPs. SNPTwist accepts data from multiple sources, allowing customers to combine SNP detection efforts with existing sequence analysis research programs. SNPTwist also allows users to leverage their past investments in bioinformatics tools by accepting output from industry standard alignment algorithms, such as DoubleTwist's Clustering and Alignment Tools (CAT) and PHRAP PHRAP Phil's Revised Assembly Program (University of Washington Genome Center) .

"While SNPTwist can be used on its own, it is an important complement to our Clustering and Alignment Tools," said John Couch John Couch may refer to:

  • John Couch - Classical Guitarist (b. 1976), a New Zealand classical guitarist

The Prophecy ToolKit

The Prophecy ToolKit is a suite of UNIX-based software programs that allows customers of DoubleTwist's Prophecy product to compare their proprietary sequences in the context of the annotation 1. Annotations may be added either by a compiler or by the programmer.  contained within the DoubleTwist Annotated Human Genome Database, and to merge, mine and ultimately visualize the results with a single command. Data types that can be merged using the Prophecy ToolKit include protein and nucleotide sequences, raw BLAST results, and other annotation conforming to Prophecy XML XML

, such as Smith-Waterman results.

"In addition to allowing our customers to integrate, analyze and use our Genomic Viewer to visualize their own data with the DoubleTwist annotated genomic data, the ToolKit provides a way for customers to use the human genome as an organizing principle to further understand the roles of the genes and gene products in health and disease," said Couch.

More information about these products can be found on the company's Web site, www.DoubleTwist.com, or by sending e-mail to Info-Sales@DoubleTwist.com or calling 1-877-DBLTWIST.

DoubleTwist, Inc. provides genomic information and bioinformatics tools to the life sciences industry. The Company's mission is to empower the life scientist by simplifying and accelerating genomic research.
