Founded as an aircraft engine manufacturer in 1916, the company assumed the name Bayerische Motoren Werke and became known for its high-speed motorcycles in the 1920s. 318s passed off as M3s, Audi A3s passed off as sporty S3s and Citroen Saxo VTRs transformed into VTSs. The AA said: 'Most buyers of these cosmetic doppelgengers know exactly what they are buying but people should be aware. 'Clearly a different badge adds nothing to the performance and handling of a car.' |
