is the resident orchestra at The Sage in Gateshead and under the musical directorship of Thomas Zehetmair has become the country's leading chamber orchestra.

See just how well-earned that reputation is when the Sinfonia opens the Dewsbury season on September 27 with Bach's Double Violin Concerto, a piece which consistently rates as a favourite in the Classic FM Hall of Fame.

Bach wrote it when he was Director of the Leipzig Collegium Musicum The Collegium Musicum was one of several types of musical societies that arose in German and German-Swiss cities and towns during the Reformation and thrived into the mid-18th century. . Its three movements have been widely popularised by films including Woody Allen's Hannah And Her Sisters (first movement) and Children Of A Lesser God (second movement).

Violinist Bradley Creswick (pictured) is leader of the Sinfonia and he and Kyra Humphreys are the soloists in the Bach Double Concerto.

In addition to the Bach concerto the concert includes works by three other great composers, Britten's Simple Symphony, Mozart's Serenade serenade [Ital. sera=evening], term used to designate several types of musical composition. Opera and song literature yield numerous examples of the serenade sung or played by a lover at night beneath his beloved's window; outstanding is  in E flat and Haydn's late great London Symphony, No 99 in E.

The concert begins at 7.30pm with a pre-concert talk in the main hall at 6.40pm.

Tickets are pounds 6 to pounds 16.50 (plus concessions) from the Kirklees Booking Offices ticket hotline, which is 01924 324501.
