TWO Welsh Section B ponies walked off with the major titles at this year's Richmond EC-hosted North Eastern Counties Welsh Pony Welsh pony, breed of small horse of European origin. Kevin and Jane Stewart's home-bred filly foal, Elvet Abigail, by the sire Elvet Challenger and out of the mare Thornberry Amber, pulled off a double to win both Supreme Welsh Foal and Supreme Overall Foal Championships after a clear cut run in the Welsh Sec B Foal Championship.

The Supreme Welsh title, uncontested by Welsh Section B and C champions, left the A and Bs with all to gain and Abigail, shown by teenager Ashleigh Ball, took the sash to the Reserve Welsh A champion, Mrs A Bough's colt foal Kelkardi Jak Flash.

Runners-up were Julie Devenney's Section A Julmar Pippin Pippin. For Frankish rulers thus named, use Pepin.

"She will finish her showing year at The Royal Welsh Winter Fair in December. Both these winning fillies are by our own Elvet Challenger who is currently being produced for ridden HOYS qualifiers by Charlotte Knight in Hampshire. Thornberry Masterpiece - a second Section B stallion at the stud - has also done his share of winning, although he has only had four outings in 2008.

"He was Champion B and Reserve Supreme at the Grass Sickness Show ands Reserve Youngstock Champion at the Forrester's Show. Masterpiece was also Champion at Wolsingham and Stanhope. He is only two years old and his first crop of foals are due in 2009."
