Double exposure. At the victory party for his election to the superintendency of the Tishomingo County, Miss., school system earlier this year, Malcolm Kuykendall was complimented on waging an aggressive campaign that made it seem he was working potential voters in two places at the same time. It wasn't far from the truth. His identical twin brother Milton, who happens to be the superintendent in DeSoto, Miss., in an opposite corner of the state, went door to door in the weeks leading up to Malcolm's successful run at the polls. More than a few people thought he was Malcolm. "They would say things like, 'It's about time you got to this part of the county,' and I would have to say, I'm sorry but I'm not Malcolm.'" Even Gov. Haley Barbour was left scratching his head. At a school-opening event in Milton's district, Barbour congratulated the superintendent on his newly elected post but asked, "What the hell are you doing across the state in this district?" The Kuykendall brothers are 58. They began their careers together 36 years ago, teaching and coaching high school basketball at the same school. |
