Dorrans is after Pole position.

Byline: Craig Swan
Craig Steven Swan (born November 30, 1950) was a Major League Baseball pitcher from 1973 to 1984 for the New York Mets and California Angels. Swan's best season came in 1978 when he posted a 9-6 won-loss record and led the National League with an earned run average of 2.43.

GRAHAM DORRANS Graham Dorrans (born May 5, 1987 in Glasgow) is a Scottish professional footballer currently playing for Livingston in the Scottish First Division. He spent the first half of the 2005-06 season on loan at Partick Thistle.  suffered the biggest disappointment of his young career three years ago in Poland.

Today in Japan, the Scotland youngster wants to start out on a journey he hopes will take him back there so he can put matters right at Euro 2012.

The West Brom midfielder is in line for a senior debut in Yokohama as George Burley bur·ley

    [Probably from the name Burley.]
begins the process of building for the qualification campaign to the championship in Poland and Ukraine.

The 22-year-old and several other fringe players are looking to take advantage of the mass call-off list to stake their claims for a regular squad spot.

Dorrans is desperate to book a place in Burley's long-term thinking and if he could help his nation get to those next major finals it would erase the pain of his previous Polish experience.

The former Livingston star was a member of the Under-19 squad that reached the Final of the European Championship in Poznan three years ago.

Bitter But despite scoring in the Final after coming on as a sub during the defeat to Spain, Dorrans insists the tournament evokes bitter memories.

Boss Archie Gemmill opted to use strikers Stephen Fletcher, Calum Elliot Calum Elliot (born 30 March 1987, in Edinburgh) is a Scottish professional footballer currently playing for Scottish Premier League club Heart of Midlothian.

Elliot grew up in south-western Edinburgh, attending Bonaly Primary School then Firhill High School.
and Robert Snodgrass Robert Snodgrass (born 7 September 1987, in Glasgow) is a Scottish footballer currently playing for Scottish Second Division side Stirling Albion on loan from Livingston.

Snodgrass has scored 7 goals in 49 games for Livingston since his debut 2005.

Dorrans said: "That tournament in Poland was a real disappointment for me.

"I didn't get the chance to play as often as I should have.

"In the end I managed to get on in the Final against Spain and scored in the 2-1 defeat.

"That was great for me but I felt I could have contributed much more.

"I suppose it's ironic the next qualifying campaign is about trying to get myself back to Poland.

"Every player here wants to be in the squads for the Euro 2012 campaign and, hopefully, we can get results in the friendlies to make that happen."

Dorrans could emerge a key future figure for Scotland having sampled life in the Premiership with the Baggies.

The midfielder is back in the Championship but Roberto di Matteo's team are promotion challengers and could be restored to the top flight by the time Scotland play their next competitive fixture.

It should also be remembered that Dorrans, who was brought into the set-up for the last World Cup qualifier against Holland, was in the original squad and is not here due to the call-offs.

Nevertheless, his desperation to make a mark on Burley is clear and he said: "This is the type of chance I have to be looking for.

Impress "This is a great opportunity to get some game time as a Scotland player and to impress the manager.

"I got a call-up to the squad for the Holland match at the end of the World Cup qualifying and to get involved ahead of such a big match was incredible.

"I didn't manage to make the final squad for the game but it gave me a taste of the type of match I want to be involved in.

"There are a lot of new faces here and we have a chance to get ourselves into future squads.

"We're all up for the game and hopefully we'll make our mark to make sure we are there for Scotland in the future."

Dorrans' rise has impressed everyone in the Scotland camp and his assured displays forWest Brom have heightened his maturity and responsibility.

And the Glasgow-born ace admits he's come a long way from his days at Livi. He said: "I've gained a lot of experience since going from the Scottish First Division to West Brom.

"The training and the quality of the players and coaches there has been fantastic for my development a player and I feel I am ready to take the next step with Scotland."
