) today announced the election of Dorothy G. Owen to its board of directors.

Owen was chairman of Owen Steel Company, Inc., headquartered in Columbia, S.C., when it was recently acquired by Commercial Metals Company Commercial Metals Company NYSE: CMC is an United States based steel and metal manufacturer founded in 1915. It owns four steel minimills in Texas, Alabama, South Carolina and Arkansas, one copper minimill (Howell Metal Company) in Virginia, fabricators, and recyclers in the  to become SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc.

Owen is a graduate of Furman University and received an MBA from Appalachian State University History

In making the announcement, CMC President and Chief Executive Officer Stanley A. Rabin said, "Mrs. Owen brings to our board a wealth of invaluable expertise in our industry. We know her contributions will be a great asset."

The election of Owen expands the CMC board to 10 members. Owen's term will expire in 1996 at which time she will stand for election at the company's annual meeting of stockholders.

In other business, the CMC board declared a quarterly cash dividend of 12 cents per share Cents per share
