Doris has birthdays down to a fine art; Painter celebrates turning 102 with glass of bubbly.

AN ARTIST who has exhibited in London and Paris has celebrated reaching her 102nd birthday.

Doris Manning, who has lived in Hartburn since 1931, first picked up her paintbrush (graphics, tool) Paintbrush - A Microsoft Windows tool for creating bitmap graphics.  about 50 years ago.

She had responded to a call in a national newspaper for women to begin painting.

Her first artwork, of a tree, was chosen to be exhibited in London and after an agency signed her up her work was soon on show in Paris.

Doris's latest exhibition was at the Green Dragon Courtyard in Stockton in 2003.

She was born in London on November 21, 1907, and moved to Stockton when she married her husband, Dr John Manning, in 1931.

Dr Manning worked at Billingham's Synthetic Ammonia, before it became ICI (language) ICI - An extensible, interpretated language by Tim Long with syntax similar to C. ICI adds high-level garbage-collected associative data structures, exception handling, sets, regular expressions, and dynamic arrays. .

The couple had three children, Robert, David and Jean.

Doris also has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dr Manning died 11 years ago.

She said: "Most of my work has been on show in Paris and in London.

"I like painting the Cleveland Hills, the moors and plants and flowers."

Doris celebrated her birthday with a glass of champagne at Middleton Hall
