NORTHBOROUGH Doris A. Davis Doris A. Davis (born circa 1935) is a former mayor of Compton, California, who earned a place in history as the first African-American woman mayor of a metropolitan city in the United States. , 99, of Northborough, passed away Saturday, January 31. She was born April 5, 1909 in Marlborough, daughter of the late John and Annie (Wardel) Davis.

Doris is survived by her friend, Dolores Dolores (or Delores) was a common given name (until the 1960s in the USA); it is cognate with the English word "dolorous" (meaning sorrowful) and equivalent in meaning.  Weaver of Northborough; a nephew, Robert Davis Robert Davis can refer to:

Doris enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1944 and served during WW II in the European Theater of Operations The European Theater of Operations, or ETO, is the term used in the United States to refer to US operations north of Italy and the Mediterranean coast, in the European Theatre of World War II. . She was discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1945. Doris was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 experience. In 1948 she received a B.S. degree in Nursing Education from Boston University. Doris went on to serve as Nursing Administrator and Educator in Worcester Memorial Hospital, Brigham and Womens and Newton-Wellesley Hospitals. Her nursing career spanned over 50 years.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4th at 1:00 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. (Rte. 20) Northborough. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be sent to: Friends of the Northborough Senior Center, 1 Centre Drive, Northborough, MA. 01532 or Evercare Hospice, 950 Winter Street, Waltham, MA 02451.
