 Mr. Park, the real beauty of the new PDK is how it can work seamlessly within Cadence's PDK Automation System (PAS) to rapidly accommodate customer-specific device requests or process variances. For example, the new PDK can be quickly tailored to DongbuAnam's CMOS Image Sensor A CMOS-based chip that records the intensities of light as variable charges similar to a CCD chip. Although initially used in less expensive digital cameras, the quality of CMOS sensors has improved steadily.

Mr. Park confirmed that new PDK contains simulation, layout, and verification structures needed to support the complete front-to-back analog and mixed-signal Cadence design flow. "We plan to offer additional Cadence PDK releases that target both specialized and mainstream process technologies," said Mr. Park. He noted that Cadence has an excellent track record working closely with foundry partners to ensure that engineers using the Cadence design platforms are provided with a smooth and efficient path from design through physical implementation.
