Dongbu Electronics Launches Worldwide ShuttleChip Service; Korea's Largest Pure-Play Foundry Offers Low-Cost, Low-Risk Design Prototyping.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 2001

Dongbu Electronics today announced the worldwide availability of its ShuttleChip(TM) service, which will enable customers around the globe to reduce prototyping costs and speed time to market. Korea's largest pure-play semiconductor foundry A pure-play semiconductor foundry is a company that does not offer a significant amount of IC products of its own design, but instead focuses on producing ICs for other companies.  is now accepting reservations for regularly scheduled CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  wafer runs, the first of which will start with 0.25-micron technology in the third quarter. Reservations are also being accepted for regular 0.18-micron CMOS wafer runs, scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter.

Dongbu's ShuttleChip service offers customers the opportunity to verify their advanced designs in silicon prior to committing to volume production. ShuttleChip benefits begin with sharing the cost of a single mask set A mask set is a series of electronic data that define geometry for the photolithography steps of semiconductor fabrication. Each of the physical masks generated from this data are called a photomask.  among multiple chipmakers during regular wafer runs. Besides minimizing pre-production costs, ShuttleChip customers can potentially achieve working silicon earlier. Customers can ultimately accelerate their time to market by verifying prototype chip designs or circuit elements such as digital/analog intellectual properties, cell libraries, and I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

"Our ShuttleChip service highlights our strong commitment to customer success through cost efficiency and faster time to market," said Peter Hillen, executive vice president of worldwide business development for Dongbu Electronics. "We aim to distinguish our ShuttleChip program by the high value we add in delivering a superb quality of service."
