Donate JAL FFP Miles & Help Eradicate Vaccine-Preventable Diseases; JAL Supports the Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World's Children.

Tokyo, Japan, Jan 31, 2007 - (JCN Newswire) - From February 1 2007, members of Japan Airlines' frequent flyer program - the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) - can donate miles from their accounts to support the non-profit organization, the Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World's Children (JCV), helping the organization to eradicate vaccine-preventable diseases throughout Asia.

JAL Mileage Bank members can support the good work of the Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World's Children by donating JMB miles from their account in units of 10,000 miles. Counting one mile as one yen, the JAL Group will then donate the equivalent amount in cash to the organization.

JMB mile donations can be made from February 1, 2007 until the end of March 2007. Members in Japan can make donations by visiting www.jal.co.jp . JMB members in other regions are asked to contact their local JAL Mileage Bank Center.

Established in January 1994, the Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World's Children (JCV) is dedicated to eradicating throughout Asia the six main vaccine-preventable diseases. Those diseases are polio, measles, tetanus, tuberculosis, whooping cough and diphtheria. As many as 1,400,000 children under the age of 5 die from one of these six major diseases worldwide every year. Many children can be saved if they are vaccinated.

Through a variety of awareness-building activities, the JCV appeals to the public for their support in raising funds and donating money to purchase vaccines used to immunize children across Asia against these diseases. The money raised is also used to survey the needs of developing countries in Asia, and dispatch immunology specialists to provide appropriate help in preventing these diseases.

By donating frequent flyer miles to the JCV, JAL Mileage Bank Members can help immunize children against these 6 preventable diseases. For example, only about 20 yen (20 JMB miles) is needed to vaccinate one child against polio. This means that 10,000 JMB miles or 10,000 yen would help to save about 500 children from polio.
