Don Reed Resigns as NYNEX President and Group Executive; Toby Webb Appointed as Replacement, Will Serve on New Bell Atlantic Board.

 today announced that Don Reed will resign his post as president and group executive for External Affairs and Corporate Communications Corporate communications is the process of facilitating information and knowledge exchanges with internal and key external groups and individuals that have a direct relationship with an enterprise.  to accept a position as president and chief executive officer of Cabletron Systems in Rochester, N.H.

Morrison DeS. (Toby) Webb, executive vice president and general counsel of NYNEX, has been named by NYNEX Chairman Ivan Seidenberg Ivan G. Seidenberg (born December 10, 1946) is the CEO of Verizon Communications.

As chairman and chief executive officer of Verizon Communications Inc., formerly Bell Atlantic and previously NYNEX, Seidenberg steered those companies through two of the largest
 to replace Reed, who will assume his new post effective Sept. 1.

Following the close of NYNEX's merger with Bell Atlantic -- expected within days, pending FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  approval -- Webb will become executive vice president of External Affairs and Corporate Communications for the new Bell Atlantic. In this capacity, Webb also will be nominated for the Board of the newly merged company.

Reed was named president and group executive of NYNEX in January 1995. Prior to this, he was president and chief executive officer for NYNEX in New England since June 1993 and executive vice president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

In 1986, he became NYNEX's corporate director for Strategic Marketing, responsible for coordinating long-range marketing plans for NYNEX's telecommunications network subsidiaries. From 1987 to 1991, he served as vice president - NYNEX Government Affairs, responsible for directing and overseeing the activities of NYNEX's Washington office and its business with the U.S. Congress, the FCC and other government agencies.

A resident of Harrison, N.Y., Webb had been scheduled to become Corporate Secretary of the new Bell Atlantic. That position will now be filled by P. Alan Bulliner, Secretary of the current Bell Atlantic Corporation.

As a Board member-designate for the new Bell Atlantic, Webb joins Seidenberg and Vice Chairman Frederic V. Salerno as the three NYNEX members of the new Board. The current Bell Atlantic will also be represented by three members: Chairman Raymond W. Smith Raymond W. Smith is the Chairman of Rothschild North America, and the Chairman of Arlington Capital Partners.

He holds a B.S. degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and an M.B.A degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
