Don't live in fear of the young; yourLETTERS.

I SHARE the pensioner's anger in today's letter's, concerning the behaviour of some youths in our society, but may I tell you of something that happened to me, also a pensioner PENSIONER. One who is supported by an allowance at the will of another. It is more usually applied to him who receives an annuity or pension from the government. , during the recent half term.

Five teenage boys, wearing dark hoods, carrying blades and asking for money, spent an hour in my back garden! Told like this the story suggests threats and violence, but far from cowering behind a curtain and phoning the police, I was very pleased they were there.

They were five members of Wrexham's K2 explorer Scout Unit, with their Scouter, the hooded tops form part of their uniform, the 'blades' were my own secateurs secateurs

Apart from this recent encounter I have over 30 years experience as a leader of Guide and Brownie Units, and have seen for myself that the majority of our young people behave very well, with respect and consideration, but get very little media attention. Good news is no news. We must remember that for every young person who does something of which we disapprove there are many, many more young people who contribute greatly to our communities, and will continue to do so for many years to come.
