Don't let the light go out.

What a surprise it was to see the November Examined Life by Carol Bonomo ("We won't leave the light on for you"). I currently serve as the director of religious education at St. Isidore Parish community that she wrote about so eloquently.

I was not serving this community when the June 1985 TWA TWA Time-weighted average, see there  hijacking hijacking

occurred and the parish opened its doors to minister to all of the victims of the tragedy; I was, however, serving here on September 11, when the community again gathered together at St. Isidore in the same extraordinary way to minister to each other in the face of that tragedy. I was here still when the tragic news of the sexual-abuse scandal broke in Boston, and we welcomed all who were grieving, betrayed, angry, and confused for conversation and dialogue.

St. Isidore has served as a hub in this small community for over 40 years. Our doors have remained open to the community for the Scouts, blood drives, senior citizens, community women's club Women’s clubs first arose in the United States during the post-civil war period. We are designated to remain open as a "worship site," but how that is ultimately defined is not yet clear. It is my hope and my deepest prayer that archdiocesan arch·di·o·cese

officials will recognize clearly that the Catholic presence in this community not only flows out of our celebration of Sunday Eucharist but also from the presence of the wider community.

If the doors to St. Isidore remain closed except for weekend Masses and occasional religious education gatherings, we as church will never be adequately serving the people of God, our mission as Catholic Christians will not be fulfilled, and the community of Stow will have become the latest victim of tragedy.
