It is appropriate that these two conferences coincide. The focus of today's leadership in our industry needs to be on using the latest technology and methods to achieve the best performance of our businesses. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] As the thoughts of how PIMA fits into the world of the Pulp and Paper Industry The global pulp and paper industry is dominated by North American (United States, Canada), northern European (Finland, Sweden) and East Asian countries (such as Japan). Australasia and Latin America also have significant pulp and paper industries. have gone through our minds over the last couple of years, the central conclusion of our Board is that leadership training is vitally important. We also believe that leadership training is being neglected by many in our industry today because of the belief that we can't afford it. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Probably more to the point, is that our industry leadership does not want to waste resources, either money or people's time, and that there is a lack of faith that the leadership training available will provide performance results effectively. There is a lot of training available. Is some of it good? Absolutely. Is some of it wasteful of time and money? Absolutely. Which leadership training should a business use? How should it be provided? Rather than hunt and peck Refers to typing on a keyboard using only one or two fingers of each hand. Although many hunt and peck typists can type very fast, most of them have to keep their eyes on the keys nearly all the time. They do not have the same sense of the keyboard layout as do touch typists. for the right training, many in leadership roles are avoiding it altogether because of the sense of potential waste. That's why we believe that PIMA is needed by our industry. We believe that PIMA should be the clearinghouse clearinghouse Institution established by firms engaged in similar activities to enable them to offset transactions with one another in order to limit payment settlements to net balances. for training in our industry. We need to continue to bring together top leaders to discuss our needs and to focus the association on the right kind of training to be provided. PIMA is an association of industry leaders whose sole incentive is for the good of the industry. Our goal is very worthy. Leadership skills and management methods are the tools that will lead our industry to success. Our biggest job right now, other than continuing to hone in on the right training tools, is to convince more industry leaders that such an association/clearinghouse is needed and that PIMA is that association. Help us spread this message. Get actively involved to help our industry continue to get better, and help convince other leaders that we need an association like PIMA; industry leaders who work together to evaluate, sort, and develop training that will be known by the industry as the place to go to get quality leadership training that will get results for the industry.
