Dominic Vicari Signs With Detroit Red Wings East Coast League Affiliate, Toledo Storm.

CLINTON TWP., Mich., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Outstanding goaltender Dominic Vicari, who starred in net for the Michigan State Spartans, has signed with Detroit Red Wings affiliate Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League. Vicari, who will go to training camp with the Storm, has also been invited to Red Wings training camp in Traverse City.

Vicari posted a career 33-29-5 record with a sparkling goals against average of only 2.30 goals per game along with a .910 save percentage and was also named CCHA Goaltender of the Week on a number of occasions along with numerous other awards. Vicari was named CCHA Best Goaltender during the 2003- 2004 season and led for first in the nation in shutouts, blanking opponents a whopping seven times. Vicari won a gold medal with Team USA as a backup netminder at the 2004 World Championships. Vicari leaves Michigan State ranked second in the history of Michigan State Hockey in shutouts.

Prior to starring at Michigan State, Vicari played for the River City Lancers of the United States Hockey League in Omaha, Nebraska, where he won the Dave Peterson Outstanding Goaltender Award, considered one of the most prestigious in Junior hockey. Vicari, who is a resident of Clinton Township, had one more year of eligibility as a Spartan but decided to turn pro when the opportunity presented itself.

"I am excited about signing with the Toledo Storm as I pursue my professional hockey career which I hope one day will lead me to the NHL. I enjoyed being a Michigan State Spartan, and I feel my statistics and leadership at Michigan State speak for themselves. I had always hoped from the very beginning that I would be given the opportunity to be a four-year starter at MSU. I feel that I earned my time between the pipes, and I wish I had been given the opportunity to finish what I started. I am proud that the Toledo Storm see the kind of potential in me that I see in myself. I am thrilled to be a part of this very successful organization. I wish my teammates at Michigan State all the best."
