Domenico Gnoli.GALLERIA CIVICA Domenico Gnoli (1993-70) spent much of his life away from his native Italy and thus left few works in the land of his birth. For that reason, Italian museums rarely revisit the output of this seminal postwar artist, making this exhibition, comprising thirty paintings, sixty drawings, and ten etchings, among the most noteworthy in this season. Gnoli's paintings couple meticulous realism and comic-book irony, and his almost pathological eye magnifies the most inconspicuous details--lending the buttonhole 1. A short straight surgical cut made through the wall of a cavity or canal. 2. The contraction of an orifice down to a narrow slit, as in mitral stenosis. o·li·vae (-v . Jan. 28-Mar. 25.
