Dollar rises, gold falls


The U.S. dollar rose Friday against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell.

The euro traded at $1.2954, down from $1.2959 late Thursday.

Other dollar rates compared with late rates Thursday included: 121.28 Japanese yen, up from 121.26; 1.2498 Swiss francs, up from 1.2480, and 1.1735 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1728.

The British pound traded at $1.9710, down from $1.9733.

Gold traded in London at $629.00 per troy ounce, down from $632.95 late Thursday. In Zurich, gold traded at $627.00, down from $631.35. Gold fell $6.40 in Hong Kong to $628.30.

Silver opened in London at $12.67, down from $12.74.
