Dollar lower, gold mixed in EuropeThe U.S. dollar traded mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold was mixed. The euro traded at $1.3547, up from $1.3545 late Tuesday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.3550. Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, included 119.75 Japanese yen, down from 119.95; 1.2163 Swiss francs, down from 1.2172; and 1.1056 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1048. The British pound traded at $1.9971, up from $1.9889. In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 119.72 yen and 1.2162 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9965. Gold traded in London at $683.00, down from $684.00 late Tuesday. In Zurich gold traded at $681.40, up from $680.95. Gold fell 10 cents in Hong Kong to $686.35. Silver traded in London at $13.32, down from $13.36.
