Designed for smaller postproduction facilities, Dolby Media Encoder SE (Stand-alone Edition) is a cost-effective single-computer software encoding solution that offers the same level of high-quality encoding capabilities as the original Dolby Media Encoder network version. Dolby Media Encoder SE encodes all Dolby audio technologies used in packaged media applications, including Dolby Digital A digital audio encoding system from Dolby used in movie and home theaters. First used in 1995, Dolby Digital employs Dolby's AC-3 (Audio Coding-3) coding and compression technology and is the standard for DVD-Video and HDTV.

"We are committed to bringing to market high-quality mastering and encoding tools for the entire postproduction community," said Steve Venezia, Manager, DVD/DTV Broadcast Support, Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby Media Encoder SE offers the same high level of quality and Dolby technologies as the Dolby Media Encoder network encoder, but it is better suited for facilities with only one or two encoding suites that don't need networking capability."

Dolby Media Encoder SE is a great addition to the Dolby Media Producer line of products, and works side by side with Dolby Media Decoder and Dolby Media Tools in the same way as the Dolby Media Encoder network version. It is expected to be available in February.

Dolby Media Producer Suite

The three original software products Dolby Media Encoder (network version), Dolby Media Decoder, and Dolby Media Tools are available as a bundled software package, referred to as Dolby Media Producer suite. These three separate Mac OS([R]) X applications are also available individually. Dolby Media Encoder offers comprehensive encoding and job control capabilities in a client-server environment, while Dolby Media Decoder provides reference decoding functions, including all Dolby decoding and listening modes. In addition, Dolby Media Tools offers bitstream and metadata editing features to save costly reencoding of previously encoded audio files. The Dolby Media Producer suite supports Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and MLP Lossless for the new HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats as well as DVD-Video and DVD-Audio formats.
