Dolby PC Entertainment Experience Program Gains Broad Industry Support; Dolby Brings Surround Sound Technologies to PCs, Motherboards, Audio Codecs, and Software at ICES 2006.

) announced today at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show that its Dolby(R) PC Entertainment Experience licensing program continues to gain support across the PC industry. This includes leading OEMs, motherboard manufacturers, independent hardware vendors, and independent software vendors. As a testament to the strength and value of its technology, Dolby worked with key PC industry suppliers to enable an advanced and comprehensive set of surround sound capabilities to be integrated into next-generation PC platforms designed for the digital home.

"The entertainment PC category, which is beginning to take off, is generating products that will capture the consumer's imagination and make their way into mainstream living rooms over the next several years," said Roger Kay, President of the market research firm Endpoint Technologies.

Dolby Technologies in Notebooks and Desktop PCs

At ICES, Dolby announced three new notebook PCs with Dolby Home Theater(TM) and two new ePCs with Dolby Master Studio(TM) solutions. The next-generation Toshiba Qosmio(TM), the MSI MSI: see integrated circuit.

 S425, and AsusTek WJ2 notebooks will offer listeners home theater surround sound with the flexibility to tailor the listening experience to fit their media, mood, audience, and environment. The Integra Integrated Media Center and the Ace Computers LHS (filename extension) lhs - The filename extension for literate Haskell source files.  IIHD Limited Media Server, which is based on an Intel(R) motherboard, were also just unveiled and feature Dolby Master Studio. These are the industry's first two Intel Viiv(TM) technology-based systems to feature Dolby Master Studio solutions.

PCs already announced under the Dolby PC Entertainment Experience licensing program include the Velocity Micro(TM) ProMagix(TM) MSX MSX - Microsoft Extended  desktop PC that features Dolby Master Studio and the Lenovo(R) Novo Center PC that features Dolby Home Theater, which is specifically targeted at the growing domestic China PC market. Both of these systems were announced in Q4 2005.

 supports the Designed for Dolby Master Studio requirements. PCs built with these Intel motherboards can deliver a true Dolby surround sound experience from any stereo or multichannel Using two or more paths for transmission or processing. It can refer to a variety of architectures including (1) multiple I/O channels between the CPU and peripheral devices, (2) multiple wires in a cable, (3) multiple "logical" channels within a single wire or fiber or (4) multiple  audio source in any playback environment-- such as a surround sound system, two speakers, or any pair of headphones Head-mounted speakers. Headphones have a strap that rests on top of the head, positioning a pair of speakers over both ears. For listening to music or monitoring live performances and audio tracks, both left and right channels are required. . In addition, AsusTek's new P5WD2-E motherboard supports the Designed for Dolby Master Studio requirement. These offerings join the retail motherboards Dolby has already announced from Abit, AsusTek, Gigabyte, and MSI. The motherboards developed in conjunction with the Dolby PC Entertainment Experience make it easy for consumers to select the audio features that best suit their surround sound needs.

Dolby and PC Audio Codec Suppliers

Designed to provide additional PC system audio value, Dolby has also approved a lineup of audio codecs from some of the industry's key suppliers. C-Media, Realtek, and SigmaTel are providing Intel High Definition Audio Intel High Definition Audio (IHD or "Azalia") refers to the specification released by Intel in 2004 for delivering high-definition audio that is capable of playing back more channels at higher quality than previous integrated audio codecs like AC97.  codecs The following is a list of codecs. Software DVD player providers CyberLink, InterVideo, and Nero have rallied around the Dolby PC Entertainment Experience. These software providers have created special versions of their software DVD player applications for OEMs designed specifically to support the Dolby PC Entertainment Experience.
