That starting price will be for the 1.8-litre petrol model with a five-speed manual gearbox and entry-level S trim and equipment. The Caliber S 2.0-litre diesel with a six speed manual gearbox will cost pounds 13,495. In a bid to attract traditionally conservative British buyers to what is essentially an unknown and untried brand here, the Calibers will cost up to 25% less than established rivals such as Volkswagen's Golf. The entry-level S model has electric windows, radio with single CD, halogen headlights, heated and powered folding mirrors, driver and front passenger airbags, 60/40 split rear seats that fold flat and 17-inch steel wheels.
