Doddy helps rename hospital.

KEN Dodd Kenneth Arthur Dodd OBE (born 8 November 1927, in Knotty Ash, Liverpool), better known as Ken Dodd, is a veteran English comedian and singer, famous for selling over 100 million records, his buck teeth, frizzy hair, feather duster (or "tickling stick"), and his catchphrases,  unveiled the newly named Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital.

He planted a tree outside what used to be called the Cardiothoracic cardiothoracic /car·dio·tho·rac·ic/ (-thah-ras´ik) pertaining to the heart and the thorax.

 Centre in Braodgreen.

Chief executive Rajesh Jain said the new name would help more people understand the hospital's work and benefited from having Liverpool in the title.

He said: "People did not know what the Cardiothoracic Centre did and it was hardly a catchy name that rolled off people's tongues all that easily.

"We are proud to be in Liverpool and to have so many local staff, so wanted a simple name that clearly stated what we did and where we were."

Doddy, who has received care at the centre himself, said: "I have watched this hospital grow from a small place called the Broadgreen Sanitarium sanitarium /san·i·tar·i·um/ (-tar´e-um) an institution for the promotion of health.

"I only live down the road from here and am very proud to have such a world class facility as my neighbour."
