to Ship With Native Document Support in the Box

DataViz(R), Inc today announced that DataViz's Documents To Go(R) Professional Edition Version 6 is included with the new Palm(TM) Tungsten(TM) T3 and Tungsten E handhelds from Palm, Inc. These are the first Palm handhelds to ship with the ability to view, edit and even create native Microsoft(R) Word and Excel compatible documents, as well as work with PowerPoint(R) files. Because Documents To Go is included in ROM, customers will be able to begin working with native documents as soon as their handheld powers up for the first time.

"Over the past year, Palm handhelds equipped with Documents To Go have been acclaimed for providing the best experience with Microsoft Word A full-featured word processing program for Windows and the Macintosh from Microsoft. Included in the Microsoft application suite, it is a sophisticated program with rudimentary desktop publishing capabilities that has become the most widely used word processing application on the market. , Excel and PowerPoint of any PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  platform. Now, with native document support, we provide our users with seamless, fast solution for working with Microsoft compatible documents," said David Christopher, vice president of product management for Palm Solutions Group.

Why Is Native Document Support Important?

Before native document support, the Documents To Go desktop application converted Microsoft Word and Excel files to a special handheld format that Documents To Go could open. Then the files were synchronized syn·chro·nize

to the handheld. With native document support, transferring and opening files gets even easier. Here are some examples where native document support is useful:

-- Easily share files in a "mixed" environment. For example, use

an SD Card as a modern day "floppy disk" to exchange files

between Palm handhelds simply by swapping SD Cards loaded with

Word and Excel compatible files. The same SD Card can be used

to upload handheld files to any computer with an SD slot or

card reader. There is no need to have Documents To Go

installed on that desktop computer.

-- Use Documents To Go along with popular wireless e-mail

applications such as Palm VersaMail(TM) to receive, edit, and

send Word and Excel compatible files as e-mail attachments.

Documents To Go can automatically open attachments on the

handheld itself so documents can be viewed, edited, and sent

on. Edit any Word or Excel file in Documents To Go on the

handheld, send them off as an e-mail attachment, and they will

arrive at their destination as Word or Excel compatible files.

Other New Features in Documents To Go Professional Edition Version 6

-- Landscape support: Documents To Go takes advantage of the new

expanded screen and landscape mode of the Tungsten T3 handheld

so more data can be displayed on screen.

-- Margi Presenter-to-Go integration: Now there is one

streamlined way to manage presentation files. PowerPoint(R)

files can be added to the Documents To Go application in the

Presenter-to-Go format, and any desktop changes are

automatically updated on the handheld after the next
