Text Messaging Donations Another Example How Wireless Technology Having Impact

OKLAHOMA CITY -- In another example of how wireless technology is having an impact on society, Dobson Cellular Systems today said its customers can use their wireless phones to make donations to help Floridians impacted by last week's devastating storms.

Dobson's subscribers in 17 states can make a $5 donation to American Red Cross relief efforts by text messaging the keyword "GIVE" to "2HELP" (24357). All donations will appear on customers' monthly bills or be debited from prepaid account balances, according to company spokesman Craig Davis.

"This is tangible evidence that wireless technology is impacting our society in a positive way," Davis said. "Utilizing our state-of-the-art GSM/GPRS/EDGE network, our customers can make these donations via a simple text message."

Dobson Cellular initiates text message donations through a program called Text 2HELP[TM] initially created by a consortium of wireless carriers in response to Hurricane Katrina. The donation program is initiated whenever a natural disaster occurs and American Red Cross assessment determines its relief effort will require a substantial level of support.

Text 2Help[TM] contributions for Florida storm victims will be accepted through April 2nd, Davis said.

"The Florida storms have caused tragic loss of life, serious injuries, and enormous damage and now Americans wanting to lend a hand to the American Red Cross Disaster relief Fund can do that through Text 2HELP[TM]," said Steve Largent, President and CEO of CTIA - the Wireless Association and President of the Wireless Foundation, the charitable organization coordinating Text 2HELP[TM]. "Through a simple text message, Americans can send a donation to the American Red Cross that will be put to good use in providing those in need with invaluable support in their time of crisis."

Officials estimate between 700 and 1,000 homes, churches and businesses were destroyed or severely damaged during the storm that impacted Lake, Seminole, Sumtner and Volusia counties last Friday.

Dobson Cellular Systems is the third largest provider of GSM wireless services - including text messaging - in the United States. The company operates more than 70 markets and is a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based Dobson Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:DCEL).
