MOREHEAD CITY -- Louis Daniel, 43, became director of the state Division of Marine Fisheries, which oversees fishing in coastal waters and up to three miles offshore. He began working for the division in 1995 and had been an executive assistant to the director for nine years. He replaced Preston Pate, 59, who retired in January.
