DiviCom Inc. enhances MPEG-2 expertise with addition of Christopher Adams to Staff.MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1994--DiviCom Inc., leaders in digital media compression, announced Monday that Christopher Adams has joined the company as Project Manager for MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). Systems. Adams joins DiviCom from Hewlett-Packard's Video Communications Division, where he led the company's MPEG efforts, and served as Hewlett-Packard's Principal Member on the MPEG (Moving Pictures Expert Group) Standards Committee. Adams has extensive experience in the area of digital media compression and networking. He was an architect of most of Hewlett-Packard's current MPEG-related products, including encoders, decoders and servers. Adams was also an active member of ACATS (Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service) The FCC committee that was formed in 1987 to recommend an advanced TV standard for the U.S. By 1991, ACATS had reduced the number of proposals from 23 to six, which included four all-digital HDTV SS/WP3, the Federal Communications Commission's Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service. His charter at DiviCom is to lead the company's continued involvement on the (a)MPEG-2 Committee, and to oversee DiviCom's development projects. The DSMCC Committee is developing standards for connection, command and control between terminals (i.e., "set top boxes"), network providers (i.e., telephone companies or cable operators), and service providers (i.e., video server operators). Prior to his work with Hewlett-Packard, Adams was an engineer at MPR (MultiProtocol Router) Software from Novell that provides router capabilities for its NetWare servers. It supports IPX, IP, AppleTalk and OSI protocols as well as all the major LANs and WANs.
