Diversified Security Solutions Sponsors Seminar On System Integration; Clients Told of Value in Integrating Security Systems into Business Operations.

The new paradigm in security systems integration involves more than simply connecting one device to another, well-known security consultant Ray Bernard told a security symposium sponsored by Diversified Security Solutions, Inc. (AMEX: DVS) and its Henry Bros. Electronics subsidiary.

"Full value and a higher return must be provided in the process," Mr. Bernard said.

Because DVS is an integrator of Microsoft products it held the symposium at the Microsoft offices in the Worldwide Plaza office tower. The symposium brought the company's clients up to date on the latest developments in security systems integration. More than 75 people attended, including representatives from The Port Authority New York and New Jersey, The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York City Transit, Silverstein Properties and other consultants, customers and factory representatives.

Mr. Bernard is a technology consultant and writer who has provided pivotal direction and advice in the security and building automation industries for more than 14 years. He cited a case in which the management of a building reduced security costs while at the same time giving security personnel a more active role in day-to-day security operations. The security guard normally stationed at the front lobby desk after hours to escort tenants from the building into the parking area was freed up to patrol the facility by installing an additional access card reader at the lobby desk. When a tenant swipes a card through a special reader, the guard is paged by the integrated security system. The guard notifies the tenant by name via a radio channel that he will be there shortly to provide escort.

"Installing additional computer display monitors flashing the name of tenants entering the building during non-rush times also gave the security guards the opportunity to greet the arriving tenant by name," Mr. Bernard said. "Eventually the tenants started calling the guards by name as well, making them feel respected and part of the building's team. When the building management began receiving verbal and written compliments about the quality of the guard service, a bonus system was implemented to reward the guards for outstanding service."
