The District Court confirmed in hearings that ASM is immediately prohibited from making, using, selling or offering for sale in the United States new orders of Epsilon One atmospheric and reduced pressure epitaxial reactors, including 300mm systems. The permanent injunctions will end when Applied Materials' patent expires on January 28, 2002. Joseph J. Sweeney, vice president of Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs for Applied Materials, stated, "Federal courts have now decided that four Applied Materials' patents are valid and infringed by ASM's products.
