District Council 9.

Hold the Rollers See Ground sea : the painters are now on strike. Leaders of DC 9 and the contractors that hire them, the Association of Master Painters and Decorators, had agreed to a new three-year contract that would have provided, a 4.5 percent hike in each year, resulting in a $45 an hour wage.

The wage increases would have been in return for more liberalized work rules - such as the allowed use of sprayers and the creation of a new local within District Council 9 that would have enabled those owners avoiding the use of union labor to use union members for the first time and pay lower wages - a bit over $15 an hour, - but the DC 9 membership gave the pact a fast pass with their brushes down.

At the end of 1996, the-same union agreed to a slew of no brainer work rule changes - such as allowing wider rollers - that helped to kick off the current construction spree.

The strike territory extends from southern Duchess County through the City and to Montauk Point Montauk Point (mŏn`tôk'), eastern extremity of the south peninsula of Long Island, SE N.Y.
