Distributed I/O controls speed installation.
There's no more big bank of electrical cabinets with a forest of wiring on blown and cast film lines from Battenfeld Gloucester Gloucester, city, England Gloucester (glŏs`tər, glô`stər), city (1991 pop. 106,526) and district, Gloucestershire, W central England, on the Severn River. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.
I/O - Input/Output instead of a central hardwired electrical cabinet. Signals from sensors - Thermocouple
- RTD - Resistance Temperature Detector or Resistance thermometer or Pt100
- Microphone

on the blenders and extruders now go to a small electrical cabinet on each piece of equipment, which has fiber-optic connections to the master operator panel. Distributed controls save floor space and expensive cabling and cut machine installation time in half because the machines can be pre-wired and pretested. Gloucester first used distributed I/O controls last year on its lab blown film line and is building its first multi-layer cast stretch-film line using this technology.
