Springfield police, Yonker, 46, pulled a loaded revolver from a briefcase and pointed it at several employees as his wife and daughter looked on.

He walked to the general manager's office and took Greg Coleman Greg Jerome Coleman (born September 9, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida) is a retired American football punter who had a 12-year career in the National Football League playing for the Cleveland Browns, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Washington Redskins. , 49, hostage at gunpoint, Sgt. Tom Borchers said.

"We're going to get this resolved," Yonker supposedly told Coleman before forcing him to leave the office and walk toward the dealership's front door. Yonker concealed his hand and the gun in the briefcase, which carried extra ammunition, Borchers said.

As the two walked through the retail spot that once housed Emporium, Lithia employees shouted that the police were on their way, and Yonker turned Coleman around and marched him back to the office, Borchers said.

That's when his wife, Dianne Yonker, 51, intervened. She talked to her husband and calmed him down, and eventually got the gun away from him, police said. The family was waiting in the parking lot when police arrived, and Dianne Yonker handed over the weapon, Borchers said.

Lithia employees at the Gateway Mall location, where this all happened about 10:45 a.m. Friday, refused to discuss the incident that afternoon, and messages left at the Yonker home were never returned.

Yonker owns Yonker's Guide Service, a professional fishing guide business he runs out of his Springfield home. He has no criminal history in Oregon.

The specific nature of Yonker's complaint was unknown Friday, but police said he was irate about a financing and trade-in deal Lithia employees negotiated with his 20-year-old daughter.

"Fathers can get really emotional when people start crossing their daughters," Wisdom said. "Even if he had a valid claim, there are better ways to handle that."

The Oregon-based Lithia Motors car dealership chain is currently being sued by 32 Oregon car buyers for more than $40 million. Their lawsuits contend that Lithia employees lied on loan documents to boost profits and defraud buyers.
