Dispersion aids for color masterbatches. (Additives).

Several dispersion and processing aids are newly available from Degussa Corp., Parsippany, N.J. These additives are produced by Goldschmidt Industrial Specialties, part of Degussa's Oligomers & Silicones business unit. New Tegomer products enhance dispersion of pigments and fillers in masterbatches and compounds.

* Tegomer P121 and P131 dispersing additives for organic and inorganic pigments are amphiphilic am·phi·phil·ic
adj.
Of or relating to a molecule having a polar, water-soluble group attached to a nonpolar, water-insoluble hydrocarbon chain.
block copolymers that reportedly reduce the amount of pigment required to achieve a certain color strength. Hard-to-disperse pigments like some types of yellows, phthalocyanine phthal·o·cy·a·nine
n.
Any of several stable, light-fast, blue or green organic pigments used in enamels and plastics.
blues, and quinacridone Quinacridone is a red powder. It is an organic compound with the molecular formula C20H12N2O2. It is used as a pigment; analogs bearing this motif are known as quinacridones.  reds are said to disperse in a single extrusion pass instead of the two or more passes typically required.

* Tegomer E 525 amphiphilic block copolymer is reported to be an excellent pigment and filler dispersant dis·per·sant
n. Chemistry
A liquid or gas added to a mixture to promote dispersion or to maintain dispersed particles in suspension.
for sensitive PE applications. Due to its high compatibility with the polymer matrix, it neither migrates nor does it negatively affect printing or bonding.

* Tegopren 6875 organo-modifled siloxane siloxane /si·lox·ane/ (si-lok´san) any of various compounds based on a substituted backbone of alternating silica and oxygen molecules; in polymeric form they are polysiloxanes, and when the side chain substituents are organic radicals,  is a processing aid that is designed to treat and disperse inorganic pigments such as ultramarine ultramarine, blue pigment used chiefly as a coloring material and as a bluing agent. A double silicate of sodium and aluminum with some sulfur, it is prepared commercially from kaolin, sulfur, soda ash, and other inexpensive ingredients.  blues and heavy-metal oxides. It is said to significantly increase color strength and reduce pigment costs.

* Tegomer H-Si 6440P reactive modifier and PP-Si 401 processing aid are both organo-modifled siloxanes that reportedly are highly compatible and permanent in polymer matrices. Both are said to significantly improve scratch resistance. Tel: (973) 257-0500, www.degussa.com
