Disney Online Launches Web Site for Live Action Feature

``Disney's The Kid'' -- Disney.com D-Word: Kid

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 5, 2000

In advance of the nationwide theatrical release of Walt Disney Noun 1. Walt Disney - United States film maker who pioneered animated cartoons and created such characters as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck; founded Disneyland (1901-1966)
Disney, Walter Elias Disney
Pictures' live action comedy feature "Disney's The Kid" (opening July 7), starring Bruce Willis, Disney Online's Disney.com hosts a unique Web site showcasing one of the summer's most anticipated films.

The Web site for "Disney's The Kid" includes such noteworthy contents as pages from director Jon Turteltaub's personal diary about the making of this film; "Spencer's Scrapbook A Macintosh disk file that holds frequently used text and graphics objects, such as a company letterhead. Contrast with "clipboard," which is reserved memory that holds data only for the current session. ," which includes a kid's-eye view of the production with photographs and journal entries from the film's 8-year-old co-star, Spencer Breslin; and "Film 101," an irreverent glossary of film industry terms designed to teach visitors to the site the definitions of often peculiar words such as "best boy" and "gaffer," which are used on every film set. The site also includes a link to behind-the-scenes production information and cast and filmmaker biographies.

In Walt Disney Pictures' comedy "Disney's The Kid," Bruce Willis stars as Russ Duritz, a high-powered image consultant whose life is suddenly turned upside down when he magically meets Rusty (Spencer Breslin), himself as an 8-year-old kid.

Rusty is a sweet, but slightly geeky, awkward little kid who humiliatingly Adv. 1. humiliatingly - in a humiliating manner; "the painting was reproduced humiliatingly small"
demeaningly
reminds Russ of everything he disliked about himself when he was a child -- a pudgy, little cry-baby who was the daily victim of the school bullies -- an image Russ has worked hard to overcome and consciously forget.

Ironically, the kid is also unhappy with who his 40-year-old self turns out to be. Russ' newfound physique, wealth and accomplishments are not all that impressive. Rusty can't believe he grew up and forgot his dream of becoming a pilot. All he knows is what he sees, that Russ is a loser -- a man without a wife or even a dog. Rusty helps Russ overcome his past, and become the grown up he always wanted to be.

Walt Disney Pictures presents a Junction Production, "Disney's The Kid," directed by Jon Turteltaub, from a screenplay written by Audrey Wells. The producers are Jon Turteltaub, Christina Steinberg and Hunt Lowry. Executive producers are Arnold Rifkin and David Willis. The film is distributed by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.
