December, the Outstanding Teacher of the Year will be awarded $25,000.
In addition, their school will receive $25,000 and their school district
will receive $10,000. All of the 36 honorees and their respective school
districts will receive $2,500. Teacher winners selected from each of 12
award categories will receive an additional $2,500.
The 36 American Teacher Award recipients will represent the following categories: Elementary -- Pre-K and Kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be , General Elementary and Elementary Specialist; Middle School or Junior High -- the sciences, the humanities, the arts; High School -- the sciences, the humanities, the arts; and, Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade -- team teaching, special education, and wellness and sports.
