Disney's 10th American Teacher Awards Program Announces Open Nominations.

Awards Totaling $270,000 for Teachers, Schools and School Districts

Disney's American American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of  Teacher Awards, celebrating ten years of recognizing outstanding teachers, will accept open nominations for the first time this year, it was announced Thursday by Disney senior vice president Laurie Lang Lang language

The program honors creative teachers who inspire the joy of learning in America's public and private school students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades.

Teachers can be nominated nom·i·nate

1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election.

2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor.
 by students, parents, administrators, other teachers, themselves or community members. Nominations will be accepted until March 31 via a toll-free number, 877/ATA-TEACH, or online at www.disneylearning.org.

"We will also bring the American Teacher Award winners' high caliber of creativity in teaching to educators nationwide through this year's launch of online professional growth and mentoring programs," Lang added.

In a gala event broadcast nationwide on the Disney Channel Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism.  in December, the Outstanding Teacher of the Year will be awarded $25,000. In addition, their school will receive $25,000 and their school district will receive $10,000. All of the 36 honorees and their respective school districts will receive $2,500. Teacher winners selected from each of 12 award categories will receive an additional $2,500.

The 36 American Teacher Award recipients will represent the following categories: Elementary -- Pre-K and Kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be , General Elementary and Elementary Specialist; Middle School or Junior High -- the sciences, the humanities, the arts; High School -- the sciences, the humanities, the arts; and, Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade -- team teaching, special education, and wellness and sports.

 Co. Applications must be returned by May 31 with several letters of recommendation.

Teachers will be selected by a team of representatives, including prominent educational organizations, education experts and former American Teacher Award honorees.
