* The Justice Department suffered a setback in May when Miami Federal Judge Adalberto Jordan Adalberto Jordan (born in 1961) is a Federal District Court Judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, his alma mater.  dismissed the government's case against Greenpeace for protesting illegal mahogany mahogany, common name for the Meliaceae, a widely distributed family of chiefly tropical shrubs and trees, often having scented wood. The valuable hardwood called mahogany is obtained from many members of the family; in America and Europe it is imported for  shipments from the Brazilian Amazon. Over 100,000 people worldwide sent protest messages to George W. Bush and U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft John David Ashcroft (born May 9 1942) is an American politician who was the 79th United States Attorney General. He served during the first term of President George W. Bush from 2001 until 2005. Ashcroft was previously the Governor of Missouri (1985 – 1993) and a U.S.  demanding that the case be dropped, and Senator Patrick Leahy warned that a successful prosecution would "have a chilling effect This article or section may deal primarily with the U.S. and may not present a worldwide view.  on free speech and activism of all kinds."
