Discreet, Vertigo Computer Systems and Devlin Design Combine To Show New Broadcast Graphics Applications, Virtual Set Realism, and Studio Automation

Discreet Logic's (Nasdaq:DSLGF) broadcast production theatre will debut frost version 2.1, demonstrating the latest advances in broadcast graphics and virtual studio production.

The new version of frost represents a significant advance in maximizing artists and graphic departments workflow, including several user interface enhancements, complete framestore integration with Discreet Logic's advanced systems editing and effects product lines, graphical texture browsers, and increased performance of the frost real-time rendering engine.

The entire IBC production will be run from a single frost system on a Silicon Graphics Onyx2 workstation. The lone system will create the virtual set, full news and election graphics presentation, 2-D, 3-D, and dual-byte font generation, audio stings, and real-time insertion of multiple streams of live video.

The frost system will also have access to local and remote Discreet Logic fibre storage framestores from various flame effects systems and smoke and fire edit suites throughout the booth. These framestores provide the frost with nonlinear access to and real-time playback of multiple uncompressed video clips simultaneously.

Vertigo Computer Systems Producer Playout Manager for frost The broadcast theatre will also be the public debut for Vertigo Computer Systems Producer Playout Manager for frost. Playout Manager is a new product in the Producer line of broadcast graphics and virtual studio external control and authoring applications from Vertigo.

The Vertigo application on frost will control the camera switching, preview systems, broadcast graphics stack, audio stings, ticker and video playback during the production from a single graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)
