Disabled man seeks van's return.

Byline: Susan Palmer The Register-Guard

Somebody stole Jim Greig's van, and he wants it back. In fact, the disabled Californian who recently moved to Eugene is offering a reward.

The white 1993 Ford Econoline van doesn't look like much. It's dented and has two red replacement doors on its passenger side. But it was equipped with a wheelchair lift, a special turning seat for the driver and hand controls.

That's because Greig, 54, suffers from ankylosing spondylitis Ankylosing Spondylitis Definition

Greig moved from California two weeks ago to be closer to family. His sister, Judy Greig, lives in Eugene, and he was staying with her when the van was stolen just after 10 a.m. on Monday from her driveway on Maxwell Road in the River Road area.

The Greigs reported the crime to the Lane County Sheriff's Office at about 10:45 a.m. and a deputy showed up three hours later, Judy Greig said.

The two also called the state police, who told them their hands were tied until the Lane County Sheriff's Office filed its report.
